Ernest Campbell Mossner

Ernest Campbell Mossner (1907-1986) professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin, and a biographer of David Hume.

Life

Ernest Campbell Mossner was born on October 22 1907 in New York City. He received his bachelor's degree from City College and his master's and PhD degrees from Columbia University.

He taught at Syracruse University from 1937 until 1946, when he joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin. He was a specialist in in British literature and eighteenth century philosophy, and was a leading authority on David Hume. In 1970 he became a member of a committee established by the University of Glasgow to edit a scholarly edition of the works of Adam Smith.[1]
